Sign Up for Summer Band and Orchestra!!
Each year, District 58 offers a 3-week summer program for all band and orchestra students, which is an excellent way to motivate our young musicians and keep them practicing. This is a great opportunity for the students to continue developing their musical skills and to play a lot of different music in a short period of time, and it's FUN! This year's Summer Band and Orchestra program will take place weekday mornings from June 11 through June 29 at Herrick Middle School. We are going PAPERLESS this year, and detailed information about the program can be found at the following link: http://www.dg58.org/SummerSchool/. Registration is all on-line and must be completed by Friday, May 25. Please contact your child's band or orchestra teacher with any questions.
Food For Thought . . .
"Music expresses feeling and thought, without language; it was below and before speech, and it is above and beyond all words."
- Robert G. Ingersoll
The College Board identifies the arts as one of the six basic academic subject areas students should study in order to succeed in college.

“Music is exciting. It is thrilling to be sitting in a group of musicians playing (more or less) the same piece of music. You are part of a great, powerful, vibrant entity. And nothing beats the feeling you get when you've practiced a difficult section over and over and finally get it right (yes, even on the wood block). Music is important. It says things your heart can't say any other way, and in a language everyone speaks."
